Shiva Neural Stimulation Technology (“Shiva”) is an example of Circumcerebral Neural Stimulation, which had only been used in laboratory settings before the Shiva System. The windows-software based approach used with Shiva allows many possibilities not yet researched or described in the scientific literature, and some of them are included with this software. Although there are studies that demonstrate that these signals, about as strong as the ones from a (land-line) telephone handset or a hair dryer, do not have adverse effects on brain tissue or cells, the possibility that some session designs might be unpleasant for some people cannot be ruled out, due to the present state of scientific knowledge. Laboratory research reported reported no negative effects of any kind from circumcerebral magnetic stimulation.

Some signals have more than one speed. The ones labeled as ‘normal’ are the best-tested ones, and more cautious users may choose to begin with those. Some signals have not been used in circumcerebral magnetic technology before Shiva, though they’re based on principles which have been well-tested with other complex magnetic signal technologies.

Headaches have been reported with complex magnetic signal technology. These have not been headaches in the usual sense of the word. These have been described as a feeling of pressure rather than as pain in most cases. Shiva is too new for data on this subject to have been gathered, but a previous version of complex magnetic signal technology showed low rates for headaches (about 2%). Most of these have been associated with the hippocampal signals.  They are usually a feeling of pressure, not real headaches. They have been alleviated using common headache remedies.  The simplest and most effective response to headaches (when they actually come from Shiva Sessions) is to lower the volume by one-third.

It’s important to be cautious with any session designs you might create for yourself. The manufacturer strongly suggests that you not develop your own session designs, both for safety and for effectiveness. However, there are always a few individuals who will disregard this suggestion, and in the unlikely event that unwanted effects occur, they should only take advice from Shiva’s tech support.
